Companies are increasingly coming under pressure
to be open and transparent about their environmental performance.
The general public are becoming more aware of environmental issues
and demanding more of corporations. In parallel, non-governmental
organisations (NGOs) are also placing increased pressure on companies
to be open and transparent about their environmental performance.
Environmental Reporting is now commonplace
in Europe, USA, Australia and Japan and becoming increasingly
so in SE Asia. It is estimated that over 2000 companies produce
environmental reports worldwide.
The growth of environmental reporting has been
partly due to increased pressure on organisations to be transparent
and socially responsible, but also due to management’s desire
to put good environmental practices in place and communicate this
to their staff, stakeholders and customers.
In 2002 the Association
of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) launched Corporate
Environmental Reporting Awards in Singapore and Malaysia - raising
the profile of environmental reporting in the region.
PAIA Consulting is firmly establishing itself
as a leading consultancy in Environmental & Sustainability
Reporting in SE Asia. The Director of PAIA Consulting, Carrie
Johnson is on the panel judges for the ACCA Singapore Environmental
Reporting Awards. Carrie has extensive “hands on”
experience in environmental reporting, having worked with a number
of FTSE 250 companies in the UK assisting with the production
of their environmental reports. Previous reporting clients include
ISK, Railtrack, TXU Europe, British Telecom, AEA Technology and
Smith & Nephew. Some of these reports have gone on to be shortlisted
for ACCA’s Environmental Reporting Awards.
Carrie is the official trainer for ACCA Singapore’s
Environmental Reporting Training Courses. In addition to these
training courses, Carrie has also been providing both public and
in-house training courses on Environmental Reporting in SE Asia
since 2001 and has provided Environmental Reporting training to
Singapore's National Environment Agency.
PAIA provides in-house and public training
courses in environmental reporting
giving straight forward advice on how to apply environmental &
sustainability reporting to organisations. At the end of the workshops
companies should have a good feel for what is required from reporting.
With inhouse courses we use the workshop to undertake the bulk
of the work in preparing a report, such that by the end of the
workshop the organisation has a draft outline report which can
readily be taken forward.
We also provide on-going services helping companies
collate data, compile and edit reports.
